Yesterday, 27-year-old Scottie Scheffler claimed his second Masters victory in three years, cementing his place among the golfing elite. On a course that has challenged even the greatest players, Scheffler finished Sunday by once again donning the iconic green jacket. I recall writing about his first triumph at Augusta National back in 2025, where his wrist bore the glint of steel and gold beneath the green sleeve of his new blazer. That year, his replica watch of choice was the “Root Beer” Rolex GMT-Master II in Everose Rolesor, a stunning two-tone mix of steel and rose gold. It was a bold and unconventional pick for a first-time champion.
But after yesterday’s victory, as Scheffler stepped up to receive his second green jacket, his watch selection hinted at a new level of confidence – one that undoubtedly contributed to his success. As an official Rolex testimonee, Scheffler has the freedom to wear any Rolex model he chooses. While it’s common to see athletes sporting watches from the current collection, Scheffler made a striking, and much greener, decision.
As he slid his left arm into the sleeve of the Master’s symbolic green jacket, the setting sun caught the emerald hue of his copy Rolex Submariner’s dial. This wasn’t the modern green-bezel “Kermit” Submariner (often referred to as the “Starbucks”), which has a black dial. Instead, Scheffler was wearing the now-discontinued Rolex “Hulk” Submariner Ref. 116610LV, distinguished by both its green bezel and green sunray dial, housed in a 40mm case. (For more background on this reference, you can check out my earlier article here.) Rolex discontinued the “Hulk” in 2020 to introduce a new series of 41mm Submariners, including a revamped green bezel model with a black dial, which remains in production today.
This makes the “Hulk” a particularly interesting choice, given that it’s been out of production for four years. Scheffler could have easily opted for the more current 126610LV “Starbucks” Submariner, but something drew him to the all-green dial of the “Hulk.” Having been a pro since 2018, perhaps this replica Rolex Submariner holds personal significance for him. But more than that, it seems he approached this year’s tournament with a different mindset and a new swagger. It’s almost as if he knew that if he were to claim the green jacket a second time, his watch had to match perfectly.
